The mechanical grate incinerator is the most widely used commercial waste incineration equipment at present. It forms a combustion bed through movable mechanical grates, and drives the waste to move continuously and burn fully through the reciprocating flipping and pushing of the grates. The complete incineration process is divided into three stages: drying, combustion and burnout, with mature technology and stable operation.
During operation, the primary fan extracts fermented odor from the waste storage pit, heats it through an air preheater, and sends it into the furnace as combustion-supporting air to quickly complete waste drying pretreatment. In the combustion stage, secondary air is supplemented in the furnace to strengthen the airflow disturbance and oxygen supply, ensure the full one-time combustion of waste and thoroughly reduce the proportion of unburned residues.
This furnace type has remarkable core advantages: no auxiliary fuels such as coal and fuel oil are required, and the output of furnace slag is low; it has a large single-unit processing capacity, does not require fine waste sorting, and is suitable for direct feeding of mixed domestic waste; the uniform flipping of mechanical grates ensures stable combustion state, high burnout rate and extremely low thermal loss of furnace slag.
It also has obvious shortcomings: the initial equipment investment, daily operation and maintenance costs are relatively high; the grates are prone to rapid loss due to long-term high temperature, acid-base corrosion and material wear, requiring regular maintenance and replacement with heavy maintenance workload.
